Lemonade Stand (Larry)
Background
Barbara's brother-in-law, Larry, had a bunch of dark fabrics he bought some years back that he was planning to use to make a quilt. Never quite got there. Well, except for miniature quilts he mae for the dollhouse he was going to build.
So sometime in 2022, he asked Barbara if she would use some of the fabrics to make a quilt. Barbara asked him to provide/select a pattern. He chose the Lemonade Stand quilt pattern Barbara had completed back in 2013.
After we got the fabrics, we spent sometime selecting additional fabrics from Barbara's stash. Many of which were used in the original Lemonade Stand quilt (there was a fair bit leftover). Took a picture or two for Larry's approval. And on July 30, 2022, off Barbara went.
Barbara finished the top. Then we went to Dragonfly to find a suitable backing fabric. There was nothing large enough or suitable in the the fabrics Larry provided. We eventually settled on a fabric, but it was not large enough.
There was a lot of discussion with the owner and staff about how to proceed. Barbara ignored all their advice, well intention though it was. She decided to sew the pieces together trying to match lines in the fabric (see below). I believe she did an incredible job (you can check for yourself in one of the following images). We also bought a piece of batting of suitable size.
Then all of that went off to Larry (late summer 2023). In his townhouse complex there are a number of quilters, including some with long arm quilting machines. One of them allowed Larry to use their machine, under supervision and with their assistance, to do the quilting. Afterwards one of the other quilters showed him how to do the binding. Which he finished stitching down.
The photos he sent us are dated September 19, 2023.
Close Up of Some of Fabric and Blocks
A real range of fabrics. And each block is essentially the same. They are just rotated to generate changing patterns.
A shot of a trial layout, shot of a trial for suitable border sizes, a shot of the finished quilt stretched out on its home bed, a full shot of the backing fabric, the quilt pattern, and a final shot of the quilt at home are also available.
