Raindrops

Background

This was the project from a class Barbara took at The Quilted Garden beginning October 16, 2006. The pattern is by Judy Niemeyer. The materials, except for a fill-in we needed to add, are batiks. (Can you see the fabric we were forced to add?)

It is Barbara's first paper-piecing project. And, her first compass points project.

We collected the quilt from Catherine, after her professional quilting and binding, on July 16th, 2007.

It was designed to be a wall hanging. But, we want to use, and have used, it as a bed quilt.

Update (2025)

Some good friends of ours, currently in Ottawa, dropped in for a visit in September 2023. A long time since we last got together. It was a great visit. Lot's of laughter and pleasure in each other's company. And we got a good idea of how much she and Bruce liked quilts.

This past February, Barbara offered Lyn one of her quilts. Lyn looked over the web site and made a choice. We thought it would be the Peacock Bargello given how much she had said she liked blues. But we were wrong, turned out to be this one. Which, I guess, has plenty enough blues for Lyn.

She received it in early March:

“AND ITS DONE WITH BATIKS!!!
I love Batiks!”

See below for a photo of Raindrops in its new home.

Rather magnificent, don't you think.

What you see in the picture was completed March 24, 2007. It was going to take some time for the border to be sorted out. The borders were finished on July 12th.

We also have photos of the finished quilt, a close-up of the border, and the quilt in its new home.

Barbara's first paper-pieced quilt, a mariner's compass pattern. This is from the class she took. This is just a photo of the unfinished top.
