Indian Corn

Background

This is another of the many quilt kits I have been bringing back from my annual trip to Lethbridge. Barbara and I both very much like the kits Janet and her daughters, of Village Quilts, put together. Some great fabric selections. I think, haven't checked, this one was brought back after the 2013 trip. The one delayed by flooding in Canmore.

Barbara started it on 2014.06.30, and completed the top on 2014.09.25. It was then taken to Catherine, of The Quilted Garden, for professional quilting. Batting (bamboo) and backing fabric were selected at that time. As was the quilting pattern: popcorn.

Barbara finished hand-stitching the binding on 2014.11.25. The completed size is 84x92 inches.

Village Quilts called their kit "Indian Corn" because of the colours of the fabrics they used. The basic quilt block used is known as the "cracker", "crackerbox", or "cracker jack" quilt block.

Backing Fabric & Binding

A rich red on the back. Makes me think of the fabric used for the backing of the Moncton Tennessee Waltz. The binding fabric was also used on the 4 Patch quilt send to Boone (also in Moncton).

Shots of a full view of the quilt, a closer look at the "cracker box" pattern & fabrics, and a look at the quilting pattern are also available.
