Disappearing Nine Patch in Blue

The quilt was made specifically for Cynthia Howden, a fellow worker at the Vancouver Mail Processing Plant. Though Cynthia is still working, they have maintained their relationship over the 5 years that Barbara has been retired.

Unlike many other of Barbara's quilts, this was not from a kit. Cynthia had indicated that she very much liked the rose pattern fabric during a visit to Barbara's sewing room. Barbara was going through her fabric stash to try to decide what should be given away (i.e. it was never likely to be used by Barbara). Cynthia saw the fabric and said she loved it. So Barbara decided to make a quilt based on the fabric. The remaining fabrics and pattern, Disappearing Nine Patch, were selected by Barbara.

This quilt was started on June 12, 2012, with the top being completed on July 11. It was professionally quilted by Catherine the end of July. Barbara finished hand sewing the binding on August 6, 2012.

There was also a little surprise for Zoe.
