VDSL on Quick-Draws

A Tale of Two Web Sites

For the Vancouver Doubles Squash League there are two important web sites.

Quick-Draws is the official web site for schedules, standings, rankings, team player lists, and captain contact information.

Rick Kochanski’s unofficial VDSL web site mirrors much of the information found at the QD web site. It is important however to be familiar with Rick’s web site.

There are too many teams to be accommodated at the four venues. Every effort has been made to have the HOME team play at its own club. In some cases the HOME team must play at the VISITOR’S club. There are also a few instances where all the matches scheduled for a particular date cannot be fit into the court space available. These matches are scheduled for an alternate date.

QD does not accommodate highlighting of these special scheduling needs. Thus it is important that Rick’s site is consulted.

The league fosters a spirit of competition of four man (that’s a generic for male or female) team vs four man team. The expectation is that all four players from each team are present for the two matches and the social time afterwards. Many players can manage that, but some players find it easier if they know if they will be the first or second match on. It is with this in mind that Rick’s schedule shows if “A Team” is on first or second. It has always been league policy that best team is to play best team and “B Team” vs “B Team”.

It is hoped that by providing the information about who is first to play prevents A vs B matches and helps those with difficult time schedules. It is also hoped that it does not create a problem of players arriving at the second hour rather than being present and ready to go on court at the conclusion of the first match.
